MANDELL JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER HOSTS FIRST LOCAL KIDS' TRIATHLON
New Focus on Youth Fitness at the Center


WEST HARTFORD, Conn., June 17, 2008- The Mandell Jewish Community Center in West Hartford hosted the Kids' Triathlon on Sunday, June 15, 2008; the first local event of its kind. Boys and girls, ages 7-13, participated in a six week training class which included not only swimming, biking and running drills, but also education on healthy nutrition, bike safety and stretching. The event was sponsored by the Ellen Jeanne Goldfarb Memorial Fund and was held in the Mandell JCC's newly renovated fitness facilities.

BEATRICE FOX AUERBACH EARLY CHILD CENTER AT THE MANDELL JCC
RECEIVES HIGHEST LEVEL OF ACCREDITATION


WEST HARTFORD, Conn., June 6, 2008- The Beatrice Fox Auerbach Early Childhood Center at the Mandell Jewish Community Center in West Hartford has earned re-accreditation in the new system of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) - the nations leading organization of early childhood professionals. NAEYC-accredited programs are subject to unannounced visits during their accreditation, which lasts for five years.

WEST HARTFORD RESIDENT RECEIVES EARLY CHILDCARE CREDENTIAL
MANDELL JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER EMPLOYEE


WEST HARTFORD, CONN., May 16, 2008- Rhonda Wirth, of West Hartford has received the Connecticut Directors' Credential for directors of early care and educational programs from Charter Oak State College. Ms. Wirth is the Co-Director of the Mandell JCC's Beatrice Fox Auerbach Early Childhood Center.

MANDELL JCC TO OFFER SUMMER SPORTS JAM
Sampling of Sports Activities for Grades 1-10


WEST HARTFORD, Conn., May 9, 2008- The Mandell JCC will host the 2008 Sports Jam which offers one week programs for children in grades 1-10. The programs will run from July 21 - August 29, and include Tennis, Swimming, Gymnastics, a sports variety program called Sport-A-Palooza and for the first time, Yoga. Hartford Celebrates Israel@60 - Press Book


(West Hartford, CT, April 25, 2008) On Sunday, June 1, 2008 the greater Hartford Jewish community will host a big bash six decades in the making in honor of Israel's sixtieth birthday, highlighted by a day-long festival in West Hartford, announced Mel Simon, Chair. Hartford Celebrates Israel@60 begins with a Walk for Israel and will feature a concert by Israel's Piano Man, Rami Kleinstein, plus non-stop entertainment, Israeli culture and food, films and family fun at the Zachs Campus, 333-335 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.

MANDELL JCC TO HOST TEEN BAND SLAM
Winner to Be Opening Act for Nationally Recognized Act


WEST HARTFORD, Conn., April 16, 2008- The Mandell JCC will host a Band Slam for teens on Saturday, May 3 from 8:00-11:00 pm at the Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Avenue in West Hartford. The Mandell JCC is working collaboratively with the Webster Theater, WCCC Radio, Sling Slang Records and Aliehn Productions to produce this event. The winning act will open for a nationally acclaimed band at the Webster Theater, in addition to being allotted six free hours of free studio time.

MANDELL JCC TO HOST FREE SENIORS' BENEFITS CHECK-UP DAY


WEST HARTFORD, Conn., April 2, 2008- The Mandell JCC will host a free event for senior citizens, aged 60+ on Monday, May 12 from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm at the Mandell JCC- Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Avenue in West Hartford. Volunteers of the North Central Area Agency on Aging CHOICES program will be available to provide seniors with a confidential screening for a variety of programs and benefits. Individual appointments are required and can be scheduled by contacting Sharon Holtzberg at 860-231-6311.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn., February 27, 2008- The Mandell Jewish Community Center will be hosting the Healthy Hearts Spinning TM Challenge on Sunday, March 16th from 8:00am-noon in the Chase/ Freedman Gallery at the Mandell JCC-Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Avenue in West Hartford. The event will raise money for the American Heart Association.

The event will mark the kick-off of the community celebration of Israel@60 which commemorates Israel's 60 years of independence.

WOMEN'S TRIATHLON CHALLENGE
More than Just a Race


WEST HARTFORD, Conn., February 6, 2008- The Mandell Jewish Community Center will be hosting its Second Annual Women's Triathlon Challenge on March 9 at 1:00 pm. The event will take place on the Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Avenue in West Hartford. There are two challenges that comprise the race: one for beginning tri-athletes and one for more advanced athletes. The event is more than just a race as it fosters a supportive environment for the women who participate and involves a diverse group of women of all ages and fitness levels.

Local Experts to Speak On Appropriate Child Behavior for Various Age Groups


WEST HARTFORD, Conn., February 6, 2008- The Mandell Jewish Community Center will be conducting a series entitled Child Development: Knowing When to Be Concerned beginning April 2 at the JCC on the Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Avenue in West Hartford. Doctors Lisa Karabelnik and Stephanie Stein Leite will conduct the series which will introduce parents to the concept of normal child development for various age ranges.

This workshop is ideal for parents of special needs teenagers who are thinking about the transition from high school to college and what it takes to get there.

Mandell Jewish Community Center To Offer Seminar On Peer Harassment With Local Expert


WEST HARTFORD, Conn., December 7, 2007- In an effort to reach out to the community and educate area students and faculty about the pervasive peer harassment problem, the Mandell Jewish Community Center in West Hartford is conducting a Student Leaders Forum on January 31 entitled Improving School Climates. The session will be led by Dr.Jo Ann Frieberg, the Associate Educational Consultant for Bulling, Improving School Climate and Character Education at the Connecticut State Department of Education who says that, “the research is conclusive that creating safe schools is dependent on a true collaboration between students and teachers".

Mandell Jewish Community Center to Feature the Only Local Exer-Gaming Program


WEST HARTFORD, Conn., December 5, 2007 - The Mandell Jewish Community Center in West Hartford will offer the only dedicated space in the Greater Hartford area providing the latest video game inspired work outs for children and teens ages 8-13. Starting in January, this entire program is devoted to interactive fitness and promotes a win/win situation for kids by combining the benefits of physical activity with the fun of video gaming.

Saint Francis Care Has Larger Presence at Mandell Jewish Community Center's New Fitness and Wellness Facilities


WEST HARTFORD, CT. — AUGUST 15, 2007 — Saint Francis Care has a significant presence at the Mandell Jewish Community Center (JCC) in West Hartford these days. As part of a major renovation and expansion of the JCC at 335 Bloomfield Avenue, the Hospital has added a new outpatient physical therapy site to its existing cardiac rehabilitation and wellness programs. The Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital Physical Therapy Center specializes in assessing and treating orthopedic, sports-related, and neurological injuries and conditions such as neck and back pain, muscle and ligament injuries, stroke and multiple sclerosis. The Center also offers post-surgical rehabilitation including joint replacements, ACL reconstruction and rotator cuff repairs.

New State of the Art Fitness Wing Now Open at Mandell Jewish Community Center


Shabbat ClubWEST HARTFORD, CT. — AUGUST 15, 2007 — The major expansion and renovation of the Mandell Jewish Community Center's fitness facilities is now open. The Hoffman Field House, a new 22,000 square foot facility, is located on the Zachs Campus at 335 Bloomfield Avenue. The Field House was named in honor of its major funders, the Hoffman family of West Hartford.
