MANDELL JCC TO HOST FREE SENIORS' BENEFITS CHECK-UP DAY

Services Provided by the North Central Agency on Aging and the Department of Social Services


WEST HARTFORD, Conn., April 2, 2008- The Mandell JCC will host a free event for senior citizens, aged 60+ on Monday, May 12 from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm at the Mandell JCC- Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Avenue in West Hartford. Volunteers of the North Central Area Agency on Aging CHOICES program will be available to provide seniors with a confidential screening for a variety of programs and benefits. Individual appointments are required and can be scheduled by contacting Sharon Holtzberg at 860-231-6311.

Programs for which screening will take place include Rx Drug assistance, Health Care Programs, Cash Assistance, Housing Assistance, Property Tax Programs, Home Energy Assistance, In-Home Supportive Services, Legal Services, Nutritional Programs, Food Stamps and Employment Programs. It is not necessary to bring any documentation or to provide sensitive personal information in order to be screened for programs and benefits.

Eligibility workers with the State of Connecticut's Aging Services Division & Medicaid RX Bus will also be available to provide assistance with State program eligibility and applications including State Health Insurance, Title 19, Medicaid, Medicare Buy-In Programs (QMB/SLMB/ALMB) that pay for Medicare Part B Premiums, Food Stamps and Cash Assistance.

Free health screenings for glaucoma, cataracts, postural/balance and more will also be available from 9:30am - 12:00pm. This event is co-sponsored by the Mandell JCC, Jewish Family Services, The North Central Area Agency on Aging and the Department of Social Services Medicare RX Bus.
