Stress Management
Studies suggest that high levels of the hormone cortisol (which is released in response to stress) can increase blood cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar and blood pressure. Learning and/or using techniques to help calm the mind and relax the body can bring you peace, as well as reduce your heart risk factors.
Massage Therapy - lowers blood pressure, increases blood flow (especially venous return), awakens dormant capillaries which expand, and eases breathing by relaxing muscles used to breath.
Guided Relaxation - helps you achieve a state of inner calm and can decrease blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension and, perhaps of most importance, provide a sense of peace.
M-technique - uses light touch to induce relaxation and aid in stress relief.
Hypnotherapy - Anxiety is a common occurrence after a cardiac event and can be in stressful situations daily. Hypnosis will not only sooth heart attack fears but aid in relaxation to reduce blood pressure and heart rate and give your heart a rest.
Sound and Energy Therapy - Experience deep relaxation in this emersion of sound and vibration.
Yoga - has been shown to control blood pressure and may also improve the blood flow and make arteries and veins more elastic. Yoga can also help reduce the stress and provide gentle physical exercise to aid in heart health.
Herbal Medicine - Herbal prescriptions by a naturopathic physician can be a targeted approach to address underlying heart disease risk factors, including disturbances in emotions, hormones, the nervous system, and inflammation.
Naturopathic Medicine - A comprehensive natural approach to address and prevent underlying risk factors of heart disease. Evaluation and management of sleep, nutritional status, hormones can greatly benefit conventional treatment.

Fitness
Regular exercise improves factors linked to cardiovascular health, resulting in lower blood pressure, healthier cholesterol levels, and better blood sugar regulation. Thirty minutes a day seems to be the sweet spot for movement – but even three 10-minute sessions is helpful for your heart. Find something you enjoy doing and a partner to support you or exercise with you.
