What is Pilates?

Pilates is a movement system designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body, and yields numerous benefits!

The Pilates Reformer is a highly versatile, spring loaded piece of modern exercise technology. It is designed for people at all levels of physical fitness and can be individualized to meet each person’s exercise goals from the beginner to the athlete.

The reformer is designed to add resistance and support for the user and is low-impact on the joints and body. Together with The Principles of Pilates, the reformer is capable of working muscle groups that are often neglected in your typical gym session.

Members can opt for a private session with a certified Pilates Reformer instructor, try a partner session or choose a group reformer class. With a maximum of 5 students, each reformer class provides semi-private instruction, where your instructor will focus on form, technique, core strength and flexibility.

Virtual Pilates private and partner training sessions are available to our members via Zoom in the comfort of their own home.

NEW! Pilates Chair

The Pilates Chair is a multipurpose apparatus and challenges balance and proprioception in different ways than other apparatus. The chair’s unique design enables everyone to get amazing results.

Like the reformer, the Pilates Chair is another of the original pieces of equipment first engineered by Joseph Pilates. The first chair was designed by Joseph to convert quickly and easily into an armchair. Hence its name. It was also designed to fit comfortably into small New York apartments. Which is why it is the most compact piece of Pilates equipment.

The chair is great for beginners or injury rehab: Pilates instructors can use the chair to progress a client from basic exercises to more integrated standing movements. This means that once someone has mastered an exercise like reformer footwork (which is performed lying down on the Reformer), they can then attempt a more advanced standing version of footwork using the chair’s pedals.

The chair can enhance sports performance: Although the chair is beneficial for people with injuries, rehab is not its only function. It is very effective for not just core strength, but building arm and leg strength. For this reason, the chair can be used to improve sports performance in sports like football, soccer, skiing and running! It is also great for supporting sports that require upper body strength and mobility, such as tennis and golf.

Other benefits of a Pilates Chair Workout:

  1. Strength: The chair will help you gain deep core strength and increase all-over body tone.
  2. Body awareness: Intelligent movement is to engage your mind while engaging your body! The movements in the Pilates Chair are some of the most unique and challenging of any.
  3. Balance Training: Recreational & pro-athletes are in agreement about the simple fact that balance is an incredibly important aspect to any form of fitness training. The Pilates Chair will enhance your balance, while also improving coordination and reducing risk of injury.
