Social Action
The Mandell JCC is all about community – it’s our middle name! J Cares connects our members to social action opportunities in the community, at home and at the JCC. We will engage in acts of loving kindness (gemilut chasadim) with the goal of repairing the world (tikkun olam). If you know of organizations that could use our help, or if you are interested in joining us, please contact Susan at slentini@mandelljcc.org or Kasi at kfriedman@mandelljcc.org.
J Cares | Fall 2026
Food for All
Any day that you stop by the JCC, you can drop off nonperishable food items in the grocery cart inside the JCC lobby. This food is donated to Kosher Food Pantry at Jewish Family Services which feeds hundreds of families of all backgrounds throughout our community. There is also a need for paper towels and cleaning supplies.
S’ock-tober
Oct 5-Oct 30
Help us collect new socks for those in need which will be donated to agencies in the greater Hartford community to support their missions. Just bring packs or individual pairs of new socks for both men and women to the JCC lobby.
Pre-Thanksgiving Food Collection
Nov 2-Nov 20
Help us stock the local food pantry shelves with non-perishable food items. Breakfast cereal, tuna, canned veggies and fruits, spaghetti sauce, and pasta are always requested. Your donations are needed more than ever before.
Share the Warmth - Winter Gear Collection
Dec 1-Dec 18
During the holiday season when children are excited about receiving gifts, this is an opportunity to learn how giving to others is so important. Tzedakah (charitable giving) and doing Mitzvot (good deeds) are two values we strive to instill in our lives. We will be collecting new children’s and adult hats and mittens to help families in need stay warm during the cold winter.
