Joseph Ness is a composer and arranger of hundreds of compositions spanning both the liturgical and concert genres. He is the recipient of multiple grants and awards for excellence in conducting, musical composition, and excellence in the arts for his many outstanding concerts.
Joseph earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Composition from Manhattan School of Music, NY. He also earned his Master of Sacred Music from the College of Jewish Music, Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS), as well as a Diploma of Hazzan from the H.L. Miller Cantorial School at JTS. Cantor Ness recently retired as the Cantor at Beth El Temple of West Hartfordafter 33 years.

Are you a passionate singer looking to be part of something meaningful, musical, and inspiring? Kol Zahav Chorale is inviting new members to join our dynamic ensemble of 35 singers, under the renowned direction of Cantor Joseph Ness.
Rehearsals take place Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm at the Mandell JCC, where voices of all generations come together to explore a rich tapestry of Jewish liturgy and music from around the world — from stirring Israeli melodies to powerful works of remembrance and celebration.

We’re preparing for a powerful season of music and meaning, including:
• Kristallnacht Commemoration Program
• Chanukah Celebration Concert
• Yom HaZikaron & Yom Ha’atzmaut Program
• Sephardic Heritage Concert
Following the success of our debut season, with singers aged 13 to 83, Kol Zahav has quickly emerged as a vibrant and meaningful presence in our community.
